Sri Lanka
The towns of Trincomalee and Kinniya on the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka lost several thousand people in the tsunami of December 2004. The disaster left thousands of others without homes or employment. Families were forced into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps set up within the community. One of these camps was located at Al Hira School in Kinniya, which became home to several hundred families. The long hot days with nothing to do were made worse by the question of when, if ever, their lives could return to normal.
